This is a common side effect that happens to some women when using the shot. Is it your first injection? This should have been explained to you before you consented to it. I was "lucky" when I was on it and did not have any breakthrough bleeding or periods from the beginning (rare, I hear). I used the shot for 2 years on and off...some other side effects which were terrible and not realized until I quit the shot was I had really bad mood swings, one minute happy everything's fine the next I was screaming and crying for no big deal.
There is no way to reverse the shot once it has been administered. You have to wait it out the full 90 days. Some women only have a little bleeding in the beginning and some have it throughout the entire time. I hope you are not one of the latter. Whatever the case just make sure to talk to your doctor, stay well hydrated and if necessary take iron supplements as some women can become anemic due to blood loss.
Good luck!

It's ok. Some women do still get periods while on depo. For me, I got my period, and then spotting throughout for about 6 months, then I didn't have any periods at all. My sister had horrible painful cramping, and bled continously for about 5 weeks...she and her doctor decided depo wasn't the right choice for her.
Some women have a strong reaction to the depo, and can't take it. Other women, like me get used to it after a period of time. You don't say how long you've been on it, but if you have been on it for a while, and this is your first time bleeding, I'd mention it to your doctor, it is still probably nothing. If you are new to the depo, it can take a while before your periods taper off.

some women bleed the entire time they are on the shot (like myself)
you could try taking ib profen for no longer than 10 days, this will slow down/stop the bleeding.. but dont take it longer than 10 days as it could cause some damage to your stomach lining..
otherwise call your doctor, they may put you on a small dose of estrogen to control some of the bleeding.. they may also have to taking an iron supplement, because of your blood loss it could cause you to be anemic, but its unlikely
good luck..
but yes this is completely normal!!
