I wouldn't mention the last 8 years politically, that would just send you back into a coma.

What an impressive premise. So, what could somebody have ignored between 2001 and mid 2007? properly, there is this little concern in the midsection East--comparable previous, comparable previous. Oh, and Angelina is "with" Brad...4 young babies now. A coach referred to as American Idol--yea, certainty television have been given extensive--regulations the airwaves, yet that's ok because of fact people do no longer watch television anymore. They watch another variety of digitainment on severe definition plasma displays. Oh, that finished concern approximately "worldwide warming" (with the aid of how, that word is out--that's now "climate replace") that particularly did worsen. So, what meaning is wacky climate forward. Oh, and melting glaciers. yet, there is desire, and curiously that's in the style of celebrities. different than that, you haven't any longer fairly ignored plenty. playstation : bypass on! consume a peach!

Good question, my friend. The last time you were awake, Bill Clinton was the president of the US, the World Trade Center towers in New York were still standing, and we weren't fighting in a war since there wasn't an enemy since the end of the Cold War with the Soviet Union's collapse in 1991. Okay....that was just a short answer. Here's my long answer....

By the time you went to sleep sometime in 1997, the world population was about 5.7 to 5.8 billion. In world news, we lost- among others- two important famous figures that year: Princess Diana, who died in a car crash in Paris, and Mother Teresa. In entertainment news, we released the historical romantic drama "Titanic", which would win 11 Academy Awards, including one for Best Picture. In science news, we cloned our first animal, Dolly the Sheep, who would live for another six years.

Let's go forward to 1998 and 1999, when Bill Clinton, who was still your president at the starting time of your coma, was accused of having an affair of White House intern Monica Lewinsky before the Senate acquitted him. At the same time, we held the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. In April 20, 1999, two gunmen went on a shooting rampage at Columbine High School by killing about 20 victims before killing themselves. These two events are the US news. Now....here's the world news: We faced a Y2K computer scare, so we had to prepare themselves for the worst as the new millennium approaches on January 1, 2000. Despite this, we celebrated New Year's Day normally since no disasters occurred. Now let's go to 2000....

In US news, during the November presidential election, we had to recount our votes since too many of us voted for Democrat Al Gore and Republican George W. Bush; the Republican won and ultimately became the new president. In the sports news, the Summer Olympics were held in Sydney, Australia.

Next, let's go towards to 2001, when we started a new war on terrorism following terrorist attacks in New York and Washington DC. On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked two planes and crashed them on the World Trade Center twin towers, which collapsed and killed more than 2000 people. At the same time, terrorists also hijacked a plane that crashed on the Pentagon as well as another that crashed in rural Pennsylvania because the passengers stopped the bombers from reaching their target. The terrorist attacks led the US on the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, the Al-Qaeda terrorist mastermind behind the 9/11 bombings, as we bombed Afghanistan. As of now, we had hunted down some Al-Qaeda leaders, but we are still looking for Bin Laden.

Next, let's go to 2002 and 2003. In US news, President Bush was concerned that Iraq was building biological/chemical/nuclear weapons, so he decided on a military build-up that led to the invasion of Iraq. During the April 2003 invasion, US troops toppled Saddam Hussein's dictatorship before capturing him eight months later. As of today, we're still fighting in Iraq, but we're facing criticism from protesters who want us to withdraw our troops from Iraq. Also in the US news, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected as the governor of California. In a sad note of our science news, we lost seven astronauts during the Columbia space shuttle disaster.

In 2004, we had another presidential election, which was between our president and his Democrat opponent John Kerry; Bush won the election. At the same time, we held the Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, where the modern (and ancient) Olympic Games began. In world news, an earthquake caused a tsunami in the Indian Ocean that destroyed property and caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people in India, Burma, and Indonesia.

In 2005, the US faced a natural disaster of its own: New Orleans was struck by Hurricane Katrina, which caused deaths and evacuations of most of its inhabitants. At the same time, Pope John Paul II died, and Pope Benedict XVI takes over the Vatican.

In 2006, we held the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy, which is the sports news. In the US news, we kicked out a GOP majority in Congress and jacked up the national debt to $9 trillion (and still counting). In the world news, US troops and the new Iraqi government finally hung Saddam on the noose as a death punishment.

Now that you've waken up today in 2007, you should know that, in the US news, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are already competing for their presidential candidate position on the upcoming 2008 presidential election. Both are Democrats, and only one person, if elected, will become the next president in 2009.
