I'm not just referring to emails from bots. Sometimes I get a little nervous when I get an email from a contact with "no subject" in the subject line.

Is it nervousness? Or is it merely prudence?

Perhaps some email recipients feel that it is better not to read an email from someone who cares so little about the subject-matter of the email (or about the person to whom the email is sent) that he or she was too obstinate (or too lazy, or too uncreative) to insert text in the Subject box.

Perhaps some email recipients have had their computer's infected by malicious software that was a payload delivered by such an email.

If you receive an email from someone who couldn't have been bothered to insert a subject in the subject line, why should you even be bothered to read it?

Emails that are crafted without a care (such as those featuring no subject line) are rarely worth reading and rarely contain any useful information.

Sometimes computer viruses will spread themselves by mailing themeselves out to everyone who is in an individual's email address book/contact list.

So you can get an email from someone you know, but they didn't send it, if their computer has been infected by a virus.

If you have any doubts, you can always email them first and ask if they just sent you an email.

I don't won't to make you paranoid though. Most of the time they just didn't think a subject line was necessary or worth mentioning.

Humans have an innate fear of the unknown which is why we strive to figure out everything as best we can in scientific terms.
