I saw this fish once that was black and kind of long, but it wasn't a loach I was told my the guy in the tropical fish store that it was called a budhacodfree...the scales were defined and the fish almost looked like it was leather in a way...hard to discribe..does anyone know what fish this might be..it was in a tank by itself so it was probably aggressive and it was probably about 12in long and it had a fairly wide body.........

I can't say I've ever heard of a fish with this name. I'm assuming you're spelling it as it sounds, so if this looked at all loach-like, the genus name might be Botia. Going on that assumption, the species closest to that pronunciation would be Botia kubotai, but the fish doesn't fit the description you gave: http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/164.htm
Still, this might be something within that general group.

There's also a Beaufortia kweichowensis, but again, this doesn't fit the description: http://www.israquarium.co.il/FishPhoto/Beaufortia%20kweichowensis.jpg , http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/706.htm

From your description, it sounds almost like a plecostomous: http://www.pauluk.8k.com/Imagenes/plecostomus.jpg - there's a lot of variety in the size and coloration of the plecos.

If the store still exists, you might try contacting them to see if they remember what type of fish this was (if you could get the spelling of the name, even, this would let you look up info on it).

ADDITION: I was thinking common name or genus, but the Tilapia butterkofferi mentioned above would be a possibility - at least it has black stripes: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=962
