Spelling. "Color" is American, while "colour" is British (also found in Australia, New Zealand, etc.)
It all started when Daniel Webster (you know, the guy who wrote the Webster's Dictionary) decided that his dislike of the British included disliking the way they spell words. So he made up alternate spellings. And since he wrote the dictionary, which just happens to be the book people turn to when trying to find the correct spelling of a word...you get the idea. So basically, the entire country now has these spellings because of one guy's dislike of another culture.

They have both the same meaning, The American language has changed the English way of spelling. The English language stems from the Germanic and such words are still in use in the UK and other English speaking nations.

Colour is the Brittish spelling.
There are some other words that the Brittish (and Canadians, etc.) insert a "u" into. Also, often Americans will end a word "er" whereas the Brittish end it "re".
However, Theatre/Theater is not one of these words. "Theater" is a building. "Theatre" is an art form or group of people.

The difference is in the wavelenght of light. Things that are green(that is, reflect green) tend to absorb red. That's why the plant are green.

Depends on where you live. USA spells it color; others (Britain, Australia) spell it colour. Check out theatre versus theater!
