Definitely yes -- but in the correct order or you're lost in the Grey Havens.

But first read the books. They're long but worthy of the journey.

Watch the Special Editions of all three DVDs with the extended scenes. It's worth the watch!

Yes, it's all one story, so you have to watch all three in sequence to really get it. I also think you'll enjoy it more if you've read the book first.

If you do try to watch them on a big screen with surround sound or in the theatre. Watching it on a small screen just isn't the same.
