This is the first year that my husband, son and I are moved away from our family and I really want to start some of our family traditions. We make christmas cookies, visit the elderly, go caroling but I'm looking for new things to add. I just want my son (9 years old) to really enjoy what he has left of his childhood with great family traditions. Any suggestions?????

Let him put the star on top of the Christmas tree. Have him help with the preparation of Christmas dinner. Sit with him and give guidance the day after Christmas when he writes thank you notes for the presents.

Every year, buy one of those ornaments where you can put a photo in it. Then on Christmas Day, take a picture of him and on the back of the photo, write the date, a few key gifts that he got, what the weather was like, or other special events or funny moments that happened that day.

Do this every year and when he gets older and wants to remember what his childhood Christmases were like, he'll be able to pull the photo out and read about it.

Then when he has his own family, you can give him the ornaments and he can share his memories with his kids and maybe carry on the tradition.
