Sidney uttered a word out of his mouth and the NHL was at his feet all ears. (ok, now I sound WAY TOO MUCH like Jude) But anyway, The NHL is apparently switching the new unis to a half old, half new style, with the front being the old fabric and the back being the new. Sounds like their slowly trying to admit their mistake...

First of all, I've never put a lot of stock in anything Larry Brooks writes because he ends up being wrong 80% of the time

In early October, Rbk started shipping uniforms consisting of a mix of the new and old materials to certain players who had complained a great deal, or who had perspiration issues (No Penguins were among that group) . The first jerseys arrived at the NHL for analysis on October 23rd, and several have been worn in games by various players.

As for the new unis, again, not sure it was a mistake by the league as the NHLPA agreed to it as well, but it should have been tested in the AHL (despite Rbks assertion that the new material is hypoallergenic, at least a couple of players have had skin issues).

The jersey materials have changed over the years, I'm not even sure this was the most drastic change (as compared to moving from the sweater to the mesh).

I'm beginning to believe that people are more picky these days than they were in my day.

Give us skates, sticks, and throw a puck on the ice and we were happy. Different leagues had different rules, as long as we were aware of them, we dealt with them. So did the fans.

There were thirty games a year televised back then, now there are 1200......people complain they can't watch them

In 1950, the average game featured 5.47 goals (1198/210)
In 1960, the average game featured 5.90 goals (1238/210)
Currently this year we are at 6.61.........but we need more?

Sometimes I realize that ,maybe I'm just too old to understand (as are the 30 NHL GMs etc)

You give me a piece of fabric....any fabric...........and I'll get any design put on it I please. I've never bought into this 'we need to change design' theory at all. That's just a cash grab for the NHL and NHLPA by forcing people to get the latest up-to-date jersey in my opinion.

I do wonder though, just how accurate is that article? By old style, do they mean same fabric without the bead away stuff or do they mean the original mesh polyester that the uniforms used to be made of?

And I wonder if this means Dallas can bring back it's old design... or the Avs for that matter. They said that it was because of the new uniforms that they coulnd't have the distinctive patterns ( I think it was money though- probably costs more to do unique things, but it can be done- Ducks, LA, any team with a stripe around the bottom...)

Half new and have old? Sounds like the NHL is HALF-fixing a WHOLE problem.

Seriously, good try guys, but admit defeat and give us the old sweaters back.

To borrow from the opinions of others, I think they should throw away the Crayolas too. The Flyers botched their jerseys and the AHL Phantoms are horrendous - I'm talking Eagles throwback vs. Detroit horrendous.

MIKE: Yeah, I remember that the NBA players said that the surface of the new basketballs were too abrasive to their hands. Yes, the NBA handled that proficiently.

Look at the bright side. Everybody that feels the need to be up-to-the -minute fashion conscious while displaying their team's colours, can run out and spend another $100. Creates a new round of Christmas gift ideas.
Brilliant.

Damnit I hate these jerseys so much. I wish the Avs used their old jerseys again, they looked so much better. Let's hope they come to their senses.

BTW, does anyone remember that gay basketball the NBA used last season? At least they had the balls to admit their mistake and change back to the old basketball, I hope the NHL can do the same.

wow i guess your opinion does matter once you're a star. When Luongo said he'd leave if the goals got bigger Bettman shut-up, now when Crosby says he doesn't like the new uniform the company steps right up and fixes it.

This is damage control at its best.

"Spin, Spin, Sugar" as the Sneaker Pimps would say.

It's the Bettman way... the wrong way.
