Unfortunately, the current society, infested with utter materialism, is neither wise nor peaceful enough for the children to learn from..... children always learn more through actions and our actions display hardly any wisdom or peace of mind. It is only when we grow up to be adults that some of us realize the importance of wisdom over knowledge and peace of mind over possessions... we then do try to teach the same to our children, but unfortunately in the present fast world, children and parents can spend very little time together... and more often than not, the children get more exposed to the external world which is materialistic and selfish. They are thus left to learn the real lesson only the hard way through life experiences over a long period of time.

Another generalization. But to answer your question, society does not choose to teach our children anything. It is a matter of the parents of these children failing to guide them.

Because materialism and arrogance are easier for most humans to grasp than introspection and awareness. We're not, on the whole, very bright.
