The smartest person I have met is the one who gave me birth...Yes, My mother is the smartest person I have met so far. She is a philosopher, philanthropist, humanist, worldly-wise, strong woman who finds solution to all our problems just like that (with a snap of finger). She is unfazed and can hold her own in the company of learned people, though has only elementary schooling. She never loses her poise, balance or equanimity in any situation. She most definitely is the SMARTEST...others may appear smart but she lives smart.

The 'smartest' person I've met is my best friend. We've had many philosophical discussions over the 25+ years we've known each other. We don't speak much around others in that manner however. It tends to become a 2-person discussion rather quickly.

Add: I agree with 'small' that the word 'smart' means different things to different people. My definition of smart is 'the inate ability to process information in a manner that produces rapid and accurate feedback'.

the smartest person i've ever met was my professor in philosophy. he's not a phD and he doesn't even have a master's degree but he's got experience and ten years of reading and listening to philosophical forums abroad. he even writes philosophy textbooks, but he's not a philosopher. he merely questions every thing that earlier philosophers write and as a class we argue on whether to disagree or agree which i think is a good method of practicing speech. =)

No they were not a philosopher. I meet many smart people, but I do not give them IQ tests, so I can only roughly estimate their intelligence. The smartest person I ever met, probable was the evolutionary biologist, Robert Trivers.

The minister at my church is probably the smartest person I have met in recent years.
She is a philosopher and I think is very wise and understanding.
She talks, jokes around, and listens with her soul.
She tells us the stories of the Bible in a way we can understand them but she seems to know the in depth meaning also and can relate it very well.

Philosophers generally get so engrossed with deeper thinking that they come a cropper when it comes to being smart in the practical world. The smartest person I have met happens to be a smooth talker devoid of all scruples.

By the way, being smart means different things to different people.... my own definition is when a person is naturally capable of managing the interactions with others, so as to maximize achieving what he or she wants to. In other words two essential ingredients.... one is interaction with others (this is where the smartness shows) and the other is maximum achievement of own objectives (this is what smartness gives).

Noah hope what can i say,,we all can be smart and stupid in times,,but many I've met have been smart persons,,but since they were humans just like me,,and i usually spend allot of time with those i like to be with,,then i and they see our smart moves and thoughts and you name it,,but at the same time we see the not smart moves as well. i had ,have and if GOD wishes will have a friend that he really can be something for him self, and is really smart,,but the society and living way he chooses makes me reconsider,,but as i said, after all,we all are humans and you can`t accept much from man kind to each other.lol
