Yes, I've read the book.

1) should we admire Mccandles for his courage and noble ideas? No, his courage and ideas were misguided and foolhardy.

2) was he a reckless idiot? Yes, bigtime, and it cost him his life.

3) was he crazy? He was more crazy than sane, and due to his delusional activities, he only weight 77lbs at the time of his dead.

4) was he an arrogant and stupid narcissist?? Yep, he clearly overestimated his ability to survive in the Alaskan wilderness with the few insufficient possessions that he carried with him.

Reckless would be an understatement. I'm not sure about the other descriptions; they go a little far. But I sure don't admire him.

Make sure you read the author's other books. They are better than "Into the Wild."
