So I took a test this morning at 13 DPO after my temp shot up yet again to 98.6 (pre-O temp in the 97s, 1st part of luteal phase 98.0, 2nd part of luteal phase 98.1/.2) and I couldn't tell what was happening in the test line. The horizontal lines prevented me from getting a good read within the time frame, there seemed to be a faint line but I'm not sure if it was a faint line or an evaporation line. I plan on taking another test tomorrow morning, but I'd like to know how to tell the difference in case this happens again. HELP!

If you see a line within the first 5 minutes, that is a positive result. A line that appears after 10 minutes (or overnight) would be simply an evaporation line.

If the result is not clear enough for you within the first 5 minutes, discard the test and try again, or wait a few days before re-testing.

Usually if it takes longer than 5 minutes to appear, it is an evap. line. A positive result should show within the first couple minutes. I took 3 tests within 2 days of each other and all tests showed a very, very light (barely visable) positive line, but I was told it doesn't matter how light or dark, a line is a line. Take at least 2 tests no matter what though. Good luck & I hope you get the result you want!
