First: about the Wii's ability to connect to the internet. If you have a wireless internet system (router and cable/DSL internet) then you should already be ok. Just go through the wireless internet set up on the Wii itself and you are ready to use the internet.

If you download the internet channel (through the Wii Shop Chanel), it will cost you 500 Wii points, bought online or at a store. Each Wii point is $.01.

However, if you're talking about online gaming, there is no fee for that. Just plug in a game and play online right away.

The internet from your Wii comes from the wireless signal from your home computer network. You will need a computer, DSL or cable internet and a router. Once you have these three items your Wii can connect wirelessly to the internet for free. You will not be charge for internet service.

You pay a one time fee of 500 factors (you get one thousand for $10) to get carry of the browser and thats it. understand that the Wii isn't a real laptop so the browser is heavily lacking in alot of areas.
