I have had my computer for about 3 and a half years now and I have never got any kind of virus on it ever. It's also on the internet all the time and I have no virus protection. I just clear all of the history, files, cookies, etc. on all of the browsers like every week. I think that virus protection is a waste of money. If I ever did get a virus in the future, I would simply reformat.

Users navigate to websites that use scripts (like javascripts) to install/run viruses, or you download a file you think is good, but really is a virus pretending not to be (called trojan viruses). Limewire is a good place to get viruses.

Having a PC is a better way still to get viruses.
Macs have better security.
I apologize if this sounds biased. It's not.

Viruses in downloaded files is the most common way, and going to dodgey sites. Get AVG Free, pretty sure thats not a waste of money considering is costs $0 :p

Get it! Chances are you have viruses but your computer doesnt recognise it. Just scan once a week so you dont have to worry about it constantly slowing down your computer

BTW: I dont have a grudge but Macs dont have better security. They virtually have none. Its just that noone actually bothers to write viruses for them.

Beside malicious site, e-mail was a major channel for distributing virus.

Once you are in internet, you would affected by virus. Virus are mankind and some virus are natural which due to environmental noise and nearly random operation in internet.

If you would to save money and using Windows system, try to install SP2 for WinXp or SP1 for Vista. This may save you some time and money. (please check http://www.microsoft.com/security)

Most which I have sent are sent by emails. People ignore the obvious or are too greedy & want to see "naked" photos of someone famous. Also people who share computers get them from floppies, CDs, and flashdrives.
