The word "solve" suggests an equation which , in turn, requires = sign.
Will simplify expression rather:-
5(x² - 3x - 4)
5(x - 4)(x + 1)
Should this = 0 , x = 4 , x = - 1

I think you mean you want to factorise it.
5x²-15x-20 = 5(x²-3x-4) as all the numbers divide evenly into 5.
Now we need two numbers which multiple to give -4 and add to give -3.
They are be -4 and 1.
So 5x²-15x-20 = 5(x-4)(x+1)

factor out a 5
5(x^2 -3x-4)
5(x -4 )(x+1)
this is the answer of you require simplification
as -4 * +1 = -4
and they add up to -3
now you said solve it= that means find x
5(x -4 )(x+1) = 0
now use the zero product on each parenthesis
(x -4 ) = 0 or (x+1) = 0
x=+4 or x=-1

(5x + 5 ) ( x - 4)
to solve for x ;
(5x + 5 ) ( x - 4 ) = 0
5x = - 5 x-4 = 0
x= -1 x = 4

5x^2 - 15x - 20 = 0
5(x^2 - 3x - 4) = 0
(x^2 - 3x - 4) = 0
(x+1)(x-4) = 0
x = -1
x = 4
