The theme this year for a gift was coffee mug. I've got a really big Texas flag mug and was wondering at some unique ideas of something to fill it with. there's always hot chocolate mix, but is there anything else anyone can come up with? Just curious. Thanks for all your ideas. And please, keep it clean. It's for my uncle.

ok, the 'mug' is about one foot wide and 8 inches deep, so there's plenty of room. Thanks for the answers so far. Good ideas

I agree with a gift card to someplace the recipient likes.
You could also add some powdered soups or breads (or dips) that only need something like water to make a meal or a portion of a meal. For instance, both Gooseberry Patch http://www2.gooseberrypatch.com/gooseberry/products.nsf/f.categorysearch?openform&definedsearch=Food::|linkloc=lhn and Tastefully Simple http://www.tastefullysimple.com/Cultures/en-US/ have things like that. They are both reputable and, especially Tastefully Simple, the foods are good. Gooseberry Patch even has some hot chocolate "spoons" that are coated with white and milk chocolate to mix into hot milk.
Depending on how large the mug, you could add some cute little ornament.
You could buy something like a pair of gloves that you roll up and insert inside or drape over the edge of the mug (or a tie, if your uncle wears them).
You could add a special (perhaps engraved) key chain.
There are mini-flashlights you could add, too (or a key chain that includes a light).
There are also small magnifying glasses, or a refrigerator magnet (there are some places that will even allow you to put your own personal picture on a magnet).
Depending on how much you're planning on spending, you could add a Cross pen.
There are places that have some pens that work but also include a flash drive (you pull the pen into 2 sections and one has the drive). Or you could add a small flash drive.
There are a lot of things you could add depending on the size of the mug and the amount of money you are planning on spending.

Well of course hot chocolate mix, coffee mix, and candy. You could also add;
A key chain, something relating to a hobby (if he likes golf, a few tees or golf balls, if he likes drawing a couple art pencils, etc.), I bet any of those little kits you can get at bookstores would fit in a mug, if he has to wear a tie fairly often why not add one and a note joking to make sure after the mug is filled with coffee not to put the tie in it again. Check out a dollar store, they usually have cool little trinkets.
