I am constantly dismayed at the ones who will fight tooth and nail against Universal Health Care while shortsightedly screwing themselves, their children, their parents, relatives and neighbors, while ignoring the basic tenets of our country ---- that is, to look out after our neighbors.
There are so many contradictions within those that are against Universal Health Care.
=============
Some people comment on how many will fight for the unborn, yet not for the people once they are born. That is not altogether true. I have also found that many of those that will fight for the unborn will fight against universal health care for the mother so she has a better chance of having a healthy baby.
I find so many contradictions when it comes to health care in this country that it baffles me.
For instance, right now we have universal health care. Our military has it, as well as our federal leadership gets to use one of the best bastions of that, the Bethesda Naval Hospital. Yet those same leaders spend enough money for several universal health care systems through pork barrel politics and our belief we should be the worlds policemen. All while they get Universal Health Care. All of that to the privileged while we have our military, in vary strengths, be it from embassy protection to wars, in 135 countries. Plus, here is the real kicker, through war funding; both Iraq and Afghanistan have universal health care, provided by us.
I am truly baffled by how many contradictions our people allow.
====================
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense,
promote the general welfare,
and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
==============
Promote the general welfare..........there you have it, our military and our federal leaders welfare, along with welfare for those we are at war with, but not OUR OWN PEOPLE.
Do you really need a more compelling argument why Universal Health Care should be a right, not a privilege for a few, especially our leaders?
==================
Why is it that all that claim Universal Health Care is a failure and results in long delays, no service, are taking these accounts 2nd hand, yet consistently those that experience Universal Health Care usually say the opposite?
Makes one wonder just who they are listening too and who is spewing the propaganda. Could it be the ones that will not benefit from Universal Health Care, like the insurance companies and fat cats?

Yes. i've never seen sicko but I know the system sucks. healthcare has become too "profit-based" to provide even basic services. It's become no different than any other profit based business, big organizations buying up the little ones who can't compete, then cutting back on staffing and quality in the process--a "cattle yard" of processing bodies and meeting a production schedule and profit, not caring about anyone from a newborn to a 90-year old (unless they can "milk" the profit somehow be it a $30 diaper..), nothing but numbers to them. Absolutley couldn't care less. What can we do about it? not a damn thing because it's the upper class whom can afford all of the best care and actual attention. A child with a high fever doesn't make as much as liposuction or colllogen implants. The ones in the "top" government circles have the BEST care at their disposal when necessary. It's our own fault for not being born into ther society whom we're left to "chose" from to run our country, and there are even books which tell rich kids about the pitfalls of dating beneath their "social class". And, whom can afford a CPA to find all the "loopholes" even if it's just pocket change to them?? .If you think I'm joking, look it up. Don't be surprised if some of these books were written by people WE voted into office for lack of choice.
Oh yeah, "Universal Healthcare" all it is is a law FORCING people to purchase insurance, it doesn't mention making it affordable for anyone. For some people, that extra $100 a month might mean having half the food they need have or gas to go to work or struggling to pay their rent or utility bills, but no matter...it's something everyone should have, right? I've never heard of ANY plan to lower rates to make it more affordable for people and most places simply won't accept "medicaid" anymore. because they lose money. Being as $100 to the proponents of this bill is like .10 cents (pocket change), what's the big deal? but they're not struggling to make ends meet like MOST Americans are now, particularly after all of our higher paying jobs were "offshored" so the government could earn import taxes rather than employ it's own..

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread! Down and out in urban America!! Patient, heal thy self!! That last one is the message I got from Obama's speech!! If his plan comes into being, according to him, the doctor's will have more patients to deal with, consequently will spend less time with each one of us, thus making ourselves responsible for staying healthy! So, what would we be paying for? He wants doctors to become healers! Right!! Really! so what does he think they are now!? Actually, he may have a point. Most doctors are specialists, very few are what I call Family Doctor's. The norm now is, prescribe a pill, or send you to get tests. There is very little hands on the patient anymore! I think it's bad timing to put such a plan into action, when people are still getting laid off! How are those people supposed to pay for the fees.? And what do they do when they use up their weeks of Unemployment compensation money? He;s not doing us any favors with his "change's"! I don't know why he thinks, the country will be better off if the Government has control over every aspect of our lives? We will not be able to call America a Free Nation anymore.

it's not the quality that sucks, it's the cost. i am a hard working american. i pay my mortgage, car payment, and other bills, but if i get sick i am out of luck. i don't make enough money to afford a doctor and my job does not offer insurance. in fact i can't afford to take time off work when i get sick, so i go in anyway. i probably infect a few people while i'm there, but what can i do? i haven't seen a doctor in years. i hope i don't have cancer or high blood pressure, but who knows? i would love to be able to have some children, but i can't afford to pay for a hospital stay, so if i get pregnant i will have to have an abortion. that's a lot cheaper than even one day at a hospital. i guess i could quit my job and go on welfare, but i won't. i'll just keep infecting you all with all the colds and flus i get. i hope you can afford a doctor!

What health care system? Do you mean the insurance companies and Drug companies system?? I didn't know that was health care I thought that was pure profit and Big Business... Hmmmmmmmm
Want the Government to pay?? I don't think so... we just want something affordable to the average joe.
kerij and texas pad... you both are assuming that what the conservatives are feeding you is true, where their statements and rebuttles to this is only because they are against it, because of their main supporters (big drug co, and insurance co's) will lose so they deface it in any way possible including lying to us people and splashing false negitives all over Fox news... Need to hear past the political gains and hear the real facts.

Well, I guess I must ask in regard to what respect does it suck? Compared to what? I believe the quality of the health-care available in the United States is actually second to none. Now, that doesn't speak as to who can afford it or take advantage of the health-care. I believe a solution is needed to get health-care coverage to the 40 some million Americans who are uninsured or under-insured, but unlike Michael Moore suggests, I do not believe a government run nationalised health-care plan will work. Look what happens to anything the federal government tries to run...Social Security, Medicare, the War in Iraq. If you put the federal government in charge of a health-care system, the quality and service will actually go down.
Given all of that, I would have to agree that the health-care system certainly could use some improvement. Any ideas??

America does not provide a state-managed healthcare system. I have never experienced it, but I've seen plenty of news stories, documentaries and reports to see that the megre American healthcare system is one of the most dismal systems in the developed west. I haven't seen Michael's take on it, but he's usually pretty eye-opening.

Yes I do...but many Americans seem to believe they have the best healthcare system in the world since they have been fed misinformation by their government on the issue.

Actually, the US healthcare system is the best in the world. The problem is that the media has convinced people that healthcare needs to be paid by the government.
