Sorry to tell you, but if they are in your dishwasher, they are also in all the walls and appliances, etc. The only way to get rid of them is to call a professional exterminator. If you let it go, it will get worse. Sorry for your bad luck... even though you are clean, they may have come from a neighbor's house or apartment, or an item brought into your home.

RE:
How do I get rid of roaches living in my dishwasher?
Help! We are clean people and keep a clean kitchen; however, I discovered we have roaches living in our dishwasher...at least that is the only place I have seen them. Any suggestions?

We have been fighting a recent infestation of German Cockroaches. Did all the standard recommended procedures, but they kept coming back. Two days ago, we noticed one disappearing under the handle of the dishwasher. We took the door off the dishwasher, disassembled it, and found the bugs inside the housing. They were hiding under the insulation and even all over the solid state circuitry! We have treated inside the door/housing, but now are wondering if they are in housing in other appliances. I have not seen this location mentioned in any sites on the web (and I've done tons of research on these nasty things!). I read that if they are in small appliances (toaster, phone) you can bag the appliance and put it in the freezer. So if you can't seem to get rid of your roach problem, check the housing of your dishwasher. You'll have to remove the door and unscrew some screws (depending on brand of appliance) [be sure to turn off circuit breaker before disassembling]. Put the boric acid or gel lightly on inside of housing and reassemble. Good luck to all of us with this nasty visitor!

There is a tube of poison that you buy at the hardware store. You put a little dab of this at the hinge of each cupboard door, and at any entry or hole you can find entering the dishwasher. Small dabs like the size of your baby fingernail will do. It is a brown colored gel. This is what the pros use and I assure you it works like magic! Do not bother with the traps, sprays, roach hotels, etc. I assure you that the dishwasher is not the only place they are in your kitchen. Its just that they only come out at night and the inside of the dishwasher is dark until you open it. If you come into your kitchen in the middle of the night and flip on the lite you will see them. They reproduce rapidly so buy this right away!

There are things you can do to minimize the amount of roaches. When you clean the house and you see a gap, seal it. A gap of one millimeter is enough for them to get through. Wash your garbage bins. When Puss or dog don't finish their dinner get rid of the food. You can buy cockroach bait traps. Put them out and when due just replace them. Put beer in a glass, they love it. Put some vaseline around the top so that they cannot get out again. Having roaches has little to do with personal cleanliness. They have been around for millions of years with little modification. You can cut the head of a female and she can still breed and give birth. She will only die of starvation. A male cockroach can still impregnate a female. But he can't find her without his head. But if you keep up your regime you will see them less and less. They like moisture so wipe the sink dry at night.

Are they the small roaches (German)? Look in phone book or Internet for pictures. If you have the small roaches you need a professional. If you live in an apartment review your lease to see if your landlord is responsible. If so put it in writing and give to landlord promptly. If small roaches don't delay they will multiply quickly.

Go to www.riddexplus.com. It is a type of pest control that uses electrical impulses to drive bugs, mice, rats, etc. out of your house without having to use dangerous chemicals around kids or pets. For $29.95 you get 2 (buy 1 and get 1 free) to plug into an electrical outlet. The TV commercial says 1 will work on a single story house. You can only order by phone or online as they are unavailable in stores as of now.
