like did or will you use a narcotic? An epidural? and if you know what kind that would be great. If you did it natural, what did you do? What position? breathing? Did any one use water? WERE YOU HAPPY? WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE?

im planning on using the bradley method, which can make it possible not to need any other drugs. If i feel the need for an epidural, however, I use it. I prefer a squatting position and I am also a big fan of water births, as several women i know have done them and said it helps to ease the pain. The trick is to be as well informed as possible about your birth options, and to consider yourself as the customer at the hospital (if thats where you plan on giving birth) and don't let their views and biases overshadow your wants and needs. Also remember a birth plan is only an outline and its ok to stray, just think seriously and weigh the pros and cons about every decision

hi heather

For my first I used all sorts lol. I did however go in with a mind that I would see how everything was going B4 using anything.

At first I hade a pethadine shot..this can make you sleepy and a bit light headed,
I also used the gas which makes you feel a little high for a couple of second..this makes some people sick, but I found it great. The shower was also great..a life saver really i could have lived in there.
15hrs into my labor they recommended an epidural. I ended up having 2. The first needle was stuck into a nerve in my spine which caused headaches and back aches for a few weeks after the birth. You don't have the freedom to walk around as it numbs from the waist down, it also made my stomach very itchy.
The second epidural at 24hrs in 10 hrs later made me really tired and sick, i couldnt feel a thing, and the nurses had to tell me when to push. I also threw up at the end of my labor due to a reaction from it.

With my second I went natuarlly, well natural for me...I have a very low pain thresh hold. I had a pethadine shot, and gas, and when was 7cm dilated asked for an epidural. My little girl was too quick for us.

yes it hurt like hell (like I said I dont have a high pain thresh hold), but it was so much better than my first. I was aware of everything around me. 45 min later I was up and in the shower and feeling human again. With my first a had a cathider and felt like crap for 2 days.

I don't think you can choose your path until you get there.

good luck

I was going to go natural until the pain was unbearable, so then they gave me stadol which knocked me out for about an hour to where I didn't even feel the contractions...then I woke up & was ready to push! I am pregnant w/ #2 & I will probably end up doing the same thing if it gets unbearable. I dont think I would ever get an epidural.

At first just slow breathing, trying to relax but it really hurts. Everyone was happy when I had the epidural. It just cuts the edge off.

I had 3 average births at house. What labored for me was once to breath out and in tough in the course of contractions. I photograph blowing out the affliction and it labored. I was once concentrating so tough at the respiring out and in that I was once distracted from the affliction. I would photograph the affliction leaving. It relatively is all approximately distraction and it's not as tough as you might consider. I additionally preferred the room to be very darkish, with the intention to be tough in a health center however I am definite you'll paintings anything out. I determined that it's all approximately being in manage. My first was once horrendous. I felt wholly out of manage. With my moment and 3rd, I made definite proper from the begin that I took it one contraction at a time. Try to not consider approximately how for much longer. Every contraction is towards your youngster and a different contraction at the back of you. Good Luck and do not allow others speak you into medicines. You can do it!!

I did the breathing with ym daughter (after being reminded by a nurse) and it helped. I was given Stadol though my IV to help relax me and take the edge off the pain. I plan on doing the same for the one on the way.

I had an epidural. It took away the pain and It became my anesthesia when they took me in for a c-section. I'm sure they will do the same this time.

i had an epidural both times. they were wonderful. well, the second more wonderful than the first. i actually got to enjoy it for about 3 hours. the first one, they put it in and left me to take a nap... thirty minutes later, i was pushing! (apparently it had relaxed me enough to finish dilating) my hubby almost missed it cause he took my mom to lunch when i said i was taking a nap! (now that's what you call sacrifice!!!)

with #1 i pushed 4 times in 7 minutes and she was here.
with #2 i pushed 2 times in about 3 minutes and she was here. i had a wonderful labor and delivery team the second go around. they actually listened to me when i told them women in my family go from 5-10 at warp speed. the first hospital i went to (with my first one) didn't believe me, since she was my first... they said i'd be there for hours. the doc almost missed it and her office is about 4 doors down from labor and delivery... i wasn't too happy with her. with #2, i told the doctor at about 8 am that i would see her about lunchtime, and she laughed and asked if she needed to reschedule her c-section that was down the hall set for 12. i told her to push it to 12:30 or 1, that i would be done by then. so she went straight over to the other room and talked to the people. the lady was fine with it, and they even started taking "bets" as to whether i would go that early. i delivered at 11:49am! the doc looked at me and laughed!
