Depends on the color of the cords! I have brown ones, and they look especially nice with white button-up shirts and tissue tees (particularly JCrew's). H&M also has some cord-appropriate tops, which you can wear to dress them up. Otherwise, for class, I pull on a sweatshirt or zip-up hoodie and layer a denim jacket over that and a big colorful scarf. I also love cords with clogs, the Birkenstock-style.

i usually wear fitted long sleeve t-shirts and down vests with mine.Sweaters can work with cords, so long as it is not overly bulky. If you do a fine rib sweater in a similar color to the cords, you could do a nice cozy wrap with it. Or a long sleeve t-shirt, and a shawl. You could also do a button down shirt or something.

blouses, flowy tops, turtle necks, polos, fitted tees, and chunky sweaters will look great paired with flats or closed toe heels.
