Because too many people confuse real life with television and movies. And they think it's an easy way to be popular, beautiful, and rich (with "popular" being the highest priority, especially to kids).
They have no idea how hard it is, and they're not willing to put in the work because they don't "see" anyone working hard on television and in movies. Work is supposed to last only a scene or two, and then permanent success is achieved.
They believe a fairy godmother is going to hit them with a wand and make their dreams come true.

A lot of people choose to be actors and actresses for three main reasons. The first is for the money, even though if you fail as an actor you can be in real trouble. The second is for the glory. The third is because they were persuaded into being in a school play or something and got hooked.

they see actors on tv and want to be like them, but they have no idea that what they are seeing is an illusion and that it is impossible for them to become actors. Acting looks easy and glamorous, but it is difficult to get work and is often boring and bothersome. It takes real ability as well and most people especially teens do not have that. Akso, family, friends and teachers lie to them and tell them they are wonderful when they really are not. Experienced teens and adults who want to be actors have experienced the thrill of being in a show and would like to continue doing that for a living. Professional work is far different from amateur work and far more demanding on the actor and therefore less thrilling and appealing than they imagine. I have advised dozens of aspiring actors from this forum and most of them just give up after a short while and no longer try to do what I advise them because it is unappealing to them. They will neve make it, because they do not want to do anything difficult, uncomfortable or that takes even a few dollars. That is good for the profession and those who do work hard to become actors. It clears out the dead wood.

I think most people want to be actors and actresses because they just want to be famous and have adoring fans. That really makes me angry, because I've been acting since I was very young, because I love it. It's very fun to play someone you're not. Acting is like my life, and it makes me mad that people only do it to become famous. Not I'm not trying to say that I'm not trying to become famous either, but I do it because its fun, not because you get all this money and adoring fans.

People want to be known. They want to be appreciated, and have people want to be like them. Acting is seen as a way to do this since people know all about Brad Pitt and Britney Spears.
