I ALWAYS tell them the truth. And I always show it in the tip. 20% is standard for me, but if things are bad (I mean if my waitress was chomping gum while taking my order, dropped a french fry on the floor and picked it up and put it back on the plate, or let my drink go unfilled and ignored me when I tried to flag her down-bad) then I probably won't give much, if anything. But if she was just new, or super busy, I let it go.

If it's a restaurant I frequently go too, well, things wouldn't be bad. However, I would let the cashier know. It's proper to let them know so they can better train their staff etc. I think we're doing them a favour by politely telling them.

well it depends for me i mean most of the resturaunts i've been to was actually good but if i ever had a bad experience i just say, "it was good thank you". i dont say," oh the food was bad sorry" because...um im the type of person who likes to try to be nice and well i just fell "sad" if i had to turn a people down making them feel bad and all. but theirs just one type of thing that would really tell me to say the service or food was bad, if the servers or staff was mean or would be "whatever" so yah. i would just say its okay.

I'd most likely say everything was fine because I probably wouldn't want to spend additional time in the store sorting out my grievances with the clerk. If it was horrible I'd want to get out of there ASAP.

If I ever have a bad experience I just say that things were ok, not really great. They can usually tell by my expression. =O

My unhappiness is usually expressed by the amount of the tip. Depending on the experience I either return or I don't.

I wouldn't say i dislike the food unless it was undercooked or cold but i would vote with myfeet and not go back and tell my friends word of mouth and all that.

I will speak up if the food is bad and especially if the service staff is lousy and rude.

I do that sometimes, I don't know why we lie and say it was fine when it really wasn't.
