What is the goal of the NRA and other pro-gun people? It seems to me that they wont be satisfied until everyone can carry a non-concealed automatic weapon. Just kidding, but it seems that way to me. But really, what are their goals?

Nothing more than the Government recognition of the 2nd Amendment.

Nothing less.

The NRA takes the "well armed militia" part of the Bill of Rights seriously ... and they believe the militia is every man and woman.

So, the NRA's goal is to insure citizens the right to "protect" themselves at all times, through legal means, with firearms.

I think that's pretty much it in a nutshell. They often fight for rather excessive legislation, like the time it takes to procure a registered handgun and making accessible parts to make semi-automatic weapons automatic, but that's because the vast majority of their membership is comprised by people like the person who first answered your question.
