I have a few questions...
(1) What is the legal age you can get it without your parents consent? Is it 18?

(2) What do they do? I heard something about a pap smear, and I'm not clear on what that is. Does it hurt/is it weird/embarassing? I've never been to the obgyn. And I'm 17.

(3) Is it true you can get birth control through 'planned parenthood' clinics and your parents will not be informed? Someone said something about that to me once...

(4) Can you have someone sit in with you while you are getting checked out??

THANK YOU

I believe that you can go see your doctor and they cannot tell your parents anything that is sex related no matter what age you are. When you go to the doctor they use this tool called a speculum and they put it inside of you and open it up, then they use swabs to collect samples for the pap smear, which is a little uncomfortable. Most gynos will also do a manual exam with a finger and then pushing on your lower abd to check for cysts. Most places will allow you to have someone in the room with you, and there is always a second healthcare worker in the room. It is a little weird/embarassing but it is something that we all have to do once a year. You should also look into getting the gardasil shot that protects from HPV which can cause cervical cancer. A good birth control to look into is Seasonale, you only have 4 periods per year with it. Dont take Ortho tri-cyclin LO it makes you very moody!

1. As long as you are over the age of 13 you can get birth control without your parent's permission.
2. It depends on the doctor if you need a pap. I was on birth control pills from the time I was 12 until I was 18 and never had a pap. I have a pelvic, but that was it. A pap is just where they take a qtip and rub the side of your vagina. It is no big deal at all.
3. Your parents do not have to know any way you get them.
4. Sure. Of course depends on the doctor though. They will have a nurse with you though.

I am not sure on the age, but I would assume 18.

To get bc, yes you would have to get a check out. A pap smear does not hurt. Well... it just depends. Have you been sexually active? If not- the instrument the doctor will insurt 'might' hurt.... but you will have to have your muscles relax that should keep it from hurting when it is put in...but even if it does...it's only for a second.

I get my birth control through planned parenthood. NO they will not tell anyone you were there. They have a form you fill out asking if it's okay to inform your next of kin/emergancy contact etc.

You might be able to have someone sit in with you. I don't see why not. You can always ask.

I dont know that there is a legal age, but.. You should be able to go to any free or scaled clinic, your county health dept, or any planned parent hood.

A pap smear is where they go up into your vagina, they take tissue samples to test for cancer cells, stds, and anything else abnormal. They may take blood work/urine samples for hormone levels and such. You will need an examine for birth control, partly to make sure you are not already pregnant. Also some types like a diaphragme need to be fitted to your body. You should have been having these sinse you started your period regaurdless of sexual activity. The exam is slightly uncomfortable, but its not horribly painful.

Yes, someone can sit in with you at the exam, as long as they have your permission to be there and here anything the doc needs to talk to you about.

I'm pretty sure there is no legal age for getting BC. but i guess it all depends where you live.

They dont necessarily do anything. I got my birth control without any type of tests done. I went to a walk in clinic to get a prescription. The ones I've been to have given me free samples too.

Yes, they'll give you BC and its annonymis.

Yes, someone can sit with you.

I could move with the IUD if I had been you. I had the Mirena IUD for three years, and feature just lately had it eliminated to check out for child quantity two. The IUD used to be painless to get in, I had it installed at my 6 week examine up after my daughter used to be born. It is reliable to make use of if you're nursing your child, and it lasts for five years!!! Plus you don't have got to fear approximately tablets or something else. The simplest suppose I did not recognise while I bought the Mirena is that's can take awhile in your menstral cycles to go back to common after having the IUD eliminated. I had mine eliminated in December 2008, and ago couple months my cycles have ultimately lower back to common, as opposed to that, I HIGHLY advocate the IUD!

I wish I knew the answer, but I'm in the same boat, unfortunately.

I've heard that you don't necessarily have to go to the OBGYN to get BCPs. You can just get one from a regular doctor, and they'll probably just give you a pelvis exam. I know I'd be uncomfortable visiting a OBGYN...

Going by your questions, I think it is safe toassume that you are still a child in high school. Therefore, the absolute best birth control for you is abstinence. It's free and your parents will be proud to know of it.
