Aida, play audition.?

Question

Hi,
Ok our theater had just finished Judgement and Nuremburg and I had one of the leads. The upcoming play is Aida, and I want to be in it so i can put it on my college application. I am not that good at singing but I can act. What song should I sing (from Aida) and how should I go about training my voice so I am a little better. Try outs are in 2 weeks. Help!!!
PS. Its a High School, however, we are very serious of drama in our school.

The song needs to be from Aida.
Auditions are in 2 weeks, and i was looking for some ideas on how to get better with my voice. to make my voice better. thanks guys

Like Maria said, you generally do not sing from the show, however since it's a school audition I know many times they do ask you to sing from the show.

I would suggest singing from Lion King if you are not required to sing from Aida. BUT if they did ask you to sing from the show, I'd say My Strongest Suit is a good choice. However, why not listen to the score and see if anything jumps out at you? You never know...

To be honest, if you're not a strong singer, this may not be your show to shine in. If auditions are a few months away then consider getting voice lessons ASAP.

1. It's been a while since I have seen Aida. I remember "Another Pyramid" was a good acting song, and I don't recall it being that "rangy." But I would see if I could find a recording of the musical and go from there.

2. If you are serious about improving your singing technique, find a professional vocal coach. Your high school teacher may be OK -- but may not be OK, depending on his or her experience with music and musicals. A bad vocal instructor can ruin a voice very quickly. This will cost some serious money and require a time committment, but it will be worth it if you want to pursue musical theater work.

First off, well done on the play saturday night! you are the most 1337 guy i know.

Second, Youre probably going to want to find a copy of the script and do some research. Find a character you want to be in the play - someone you can relate to. After that its all down hill (NOT). Find a song that you like and can relate to. Youre going to need a voice coach too. Im pretty sure that more people try out for the musical than the fall production.

just a hint: at the audition don't sing a song from Aida. there is a character that doesn't sing that's Aida's father but if you do want to sing there is Mereb the secondary but essential character in the musical.

I wish you were more serious of English. You need extra work in that subject if you are going to college. Since you did not have the foresight to take voice lessons, pehaps you could ask the chorus teacher for some help with your singing.

my strongest suit is a big hit from that musical.
Aida is very pop like since Elton john wrote it but its also very emotional. u have to be able to show ur emotion while singing pop.
one thing that u need to watch out for is pronunciation. yes it it pop but breathy vocals are not always useful on stage. make sure ur pronunciation is well and good luck.
Aida is such a great show!
