This just a guess, but, on avg. (remember, just a guess) a novel page, has about 200 words, and a decent amount of pages in a book is about 300 for a novel so, 200x300 is 60,000, so, about 60,000 words is a decent amount for a novel (still just a guess)

I'd say about 250,000. Estimating that a short novel of 250 pages may have approximately 1,000 words per page.

A novel has to be at least 50,000 words...so I guess anything less would be a "short novel".

You really can't compare them. I have read novels that were only 350 pages long. Then compare them to those 1000 plus pages that Steven King writes.
See what I mean? You can't really get an average.

I have no clue, most novels are around 200 pages, so that may be between 5,000 and 7,000 words. Just a guess.
