The USA has a Democratic Republic system of government. As far as the government being dependent on citizens.. not really because our representatives make the decisions. All we need to do is vote.

We have a representative Republic with Democratically elected representatives.
Citizens are given the opportunity to succeed and thrive by enjoying the fruits of their OWN labor.
Government, under the Constitution and Bill of Rights as originally intended, was NOT able to confiscate your products to use for THEIR benefit or to give to others.
High taxes are a CRIME. They take YOUR power and give it to tyrants.
You are responsible for your own well-being and for your actions.
Socialism is a CRIME against the citizens of America and against HUMANITY in general.

It's verging on totalitarianism. In the case of this form of government it only requires that citizens be inept, apathetic and ill informed. So yes, it would seem we are doing a good job of that.
