If we are just talking about SF fans , than I don't think they should be "blamed" for anything. If you are a true fan of your team, you root for whoever is on that team, no matter what they may or may not do.

But as for the Giants management group, they deserve as much blame as Bonds. They obviously knew he was on something, but they ignored it because it was only because of Bonds that they got a new stadium, sold out just about all of their games, and made millions in revenue off of him. Thats what happens when you keep a controversial player, he'll keep fannies in the seats but once that is all over with you will be looked at in shame for having him there as part of your organization.

I think that Barry Bonds is being made an example of. There are 100's of players without a doubt in MLB that have done and still are doing steriods or performance enhancing drugs but for some reason you don't hear anything about them.

I just find it funny that you did not hear one thing about Bonds and steroids until he got close to breaking the all-time home run record. His steroid use was never an issue nor was it much of an issue in MLB until he was on the verge of breaking the record. I definitely think that it was a case of character sabotage and they knew long before he was close to breaking the record that he was possibly using performance enhancing drugs but the right people with the information waited until just the right time to tarnish Bonds record and attempt to ruin his career.

I think that the people that had this information should be looked at a little more than Bonds and we all should question why it took so long to bring this information public. Sounds pretty deliberate and it's despicable. What I find ammusing is that you didn't hear a single word about performance enhancing drugs when McGuire and Sosa were battling it out and they are both two perfect examples of steroid users.

Baseball has rules that people are not allowed to take drugs (including drugs that improve performance). Barry took these drugs and lied about it. In recent years, many others did too. Barry broke records that are very important and precious to America (at least me), and if he is found guilty, he should be stripped of those records. Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth did not take drugs to get those records. It's an insult to them to allow this record to stand.
Baseball needs to get it's act together on this issue. Pete Rose has been banned from baseball for 20 years because he bet on the game. What Bonds did was significantly more damaging to baseball than what Rose did and he needs to be dealt with accordingly.

The Giants fans are as good as any in MLB and were doing nothing more than pulling for their team to win. Any problems that come from all of this rests right on the shoulders of Bonds and not the Giants fans.

Barry Bonds is a disgrace to all of baseball, he should have been thrown out once everyone knew he was cheating. the san francisco fans embraced this a- hole, so you fans out there have to share some of the blame.

I believe you have this opinion simply because you're a Giants fan(thus you're bias). HOWEVER, while I do think Barry Bonds took steroids, I think it's unfair with all the criticism he's receiving because of it...People who think he should be stripped of the all-time HR record because he may or may not have taken anabolic steroids and thus he cheated to obtain the record need to get a grip...Mark McGwire broke the single season HR record before Bonds did, and anyone who tells me that McGwire wasn't on steroids when he did it is a complete IDIOT!

I think that was ESPN's quick cop-out: "oh, the FANS want to see home runs." The only other issue I can think of is the people who blindly refuse to look at the facts and support the guy no matter what. I personally was bitten by that bug with Pete Rose for years, and perhaps the experience with Rose ("I didn't bet on baseball, I didn't bet on baseball, I didn't bet on baseball, I didn't bet on baseball, okay, I bet on baseball") is what makes me so cynical about Bonds and others.

it will be best for baseball because keeping the issue in the headlines is a good thing to teach kids using designer hormone (whatever) drugs is bad for their health, bad ethics, bad for sports.

like the others it made him big and powerful. these people should not be rewarded. mcguire, jose, bonds etc. should never be allowed to hold records and should receive much attention from sports writers and announcers. for the kids.

they didn't need those drugs. but the drugs did push them beyond what they could do naturally. jose told the truth. what he did not tell is whether it will affect their health later. and he didn't talk about how boys tend to imitate sports stars.

San Fran fans are NOT to blame. The management is as responsible as Barry.
