Why are democrats against school voucher programmes?
Religious issues aside, lets say that the government allowed voucher programmes, but not for religious schools. What would you say then?

The teacher's union has ahold of the Democrats and they're against the voucher. I remember a while ago seeing this documentary on the benefits of vouchers and being deterred by greedy teachers.

Vouchers take money out of the public school system. While vouchers may help families who may not otherwise be able to afford private schooling for children, a great many underprivileged students would be left in a system that has even less resources.

So, your kids are in public schools, and your neighbor's kids are in an upscale private school, and now you want the government to take funds away from your kids in the public school and hand the money over to the kids in the upscale private school, where the majority of the students who attend are members of families who earn in the top ten percent in the country. Taking money away from the public schools isn't the answer, and, excuse me, but from a group who wants less government involvement in their lives, why would they want tax money injected into private schools, adding yet more governmental involvement? It's obvious that when the pundits who yowl about having less government talk, they are only talking about less government involvement in the lives of those who actually need it and not about the government subsidizing private schools, or oil companies, or mercenaries disguised as private security companies. This is nothing but a smokescreen to focus you away from the folly that is the Bush administration.
