Predict whether the following reactions are spontaneous or not.
Pd^2+ + H2 → Pd + 2H^+ ..... Pd^2+ + 2e^- → Pd .....E°=0.987V
Ni^2+ +H2 → Ni + 2H^+....... Ni^2+ + 2e^- → Ni .......E°=-0.250
From your answer, decide which of the above metals could be reduced by hydrogen. Identify the oxidating agents and reducing agents in the reaction.

can someone please help me solve this question? and tell how you got it.
thank you.

Pd^2+ + H2 → Pd + 2H^+
with Pd^2+ + 2e^- → Pd, E° = +0.987V
Spontaneous, since we have a positive driving force for Pd^2+ to be reduced to Pd. Thus Pd^2+ can be reduced by H2. The oxidizing agent is Pd^2+, and the reducing agent is H2.

Ni^2+ +H2 → Ni + 2H^+
with Ni^2+ + 2e^- → Ni, E°= -0.250V
Non-spontaneous. Thus Ni^2+ can NOT be reduced by H2.
