I really hate to say this but...the NBA is to blame due to the fact that they allowed players to be themselves in order to keep the attention of the youth in the inner city. All the while raising prices of tickets to amounts that only the rich and well to do financially would pay for.
Problem is that they dont want to pay to see games where players jump in stands to fight fans, players who get into bar fights and shoot guns, players wearing unprofessional attire in a professional atmosphrere, and most of all...there is not one person in today's game that can relate to them to the extent that they would pay to see any such player.
Too much selfishness. Guys like Marbury, Iverson, and Darius Miles have on occasion treated the game like they are bigger than it.
The NBA has changed the rules of the game to create more passing and take away from such selfishness, but that created another problem...the basketball is just plain not at the level of the 80's and 90's. They also started having a dress code, but some dress professional...others have a hard time making millions of dollars and don't have a suit and tie in their closet...pathetic.
The Spurs are old school basketball team it's not their fault they win while not being flashy or outspoken. They handle their business on the court and not on ESPN or in a commercial. If all teams were like them, the basketball would be better, the ratings would be higher, and corporate america wouldn't be afraid to buy tickets to games. The only "lineup" you see the Spurs in is...the box scores!!!
Coaches need more power. Players have too much of it. When a player can force a coach to be fired for doing the right things is crazy. When a player can force a trade because its better for him personally and not the team is stupid. These are the things that are on corporate america's mind when the NBA is brought into conversation.

Well it's really because the level of talent has fallen off. Just take a look at shooting percentages, free throw percentages for the league averages over the years. They've fallen off. Teams used to play much better together. Much more teamwork. Now they just run isolations on every play, and the horrible rule changes have also watered down the league. Defense cannot be played anymore. But the biggest reason of all is that the legends have left the game. There is no player right now to compare to the greats of Jordan, Bird, Magic. After Michael Jordan retired, ratings fell off a cliff.

If NBA ratings have fallen, it's likely because of small-minded individuals who think like you. Any NFL fan will tell you the NBA doesn't have a monopoly on athletes who've run afoul of the law. The difference is, mainstream America singles out NFL players for criticism, but when a NBA player makes the evening news, they lambaste the league.
Do you also suggest fans carry weapons to major league baseball games? You must not know that baseball players have attacked fans ... or maybe your double standard has convinced you it's different.

Fragmentation. In 1968, there have been 3 national nets -- ABC, CBS, and NBC -- and that regulate into fairly plenty the strategies visitors had. Now, there is quite a few hundred channels, each and each catering to its very own area of interest marketplace, plus many different, non-television entertainment strategies (like, oh, that there newfangled international extensive WebbyNet ingredient i've got heard the greater youthful human beings tell approximately). And the inhabitants has grown significantly, to boot as worldwide distribution of programming. So, on a similar time as greater eyes see the sequence than ever earlier, nationally that is a smaller proportion of potential visitors than in situations previous. (And worldwide visitors do no longer ingredient into scores.) Plus, as talked approximately, the timing television has inflicted upon the video games is atrocious. sure, that is to tush-kiss the popular jap time zone viewership, yet heavily, 8:35 pm jap first pitch? that is horrific, plenty too late. i do no longer carry any delusions that the sequence could pass returned to afternoon video games, yet greater time-honored start up situations, like 7:05 or maybe 7:30, might somewhat make observing the video games a greater friendly adventure. (a minimum of, the weekend video games could pass up an hour or greater.) besides, bear in mind, apart from the flatline-EEG experts interior the Fox suites and MLB's residing house place of work, scores are no longer significant.

First of all, hell no..they aren't thugs and they make the game exciting.
Second, it's the Spurs that bring ratings down. They're boring as heeeeelllllllllllllllll. NBA is way too manufactured today.
