Usually I'd definitely say yes to a coffee date. I mean, even if we have no chemistry, how bad can it get over one cup of coffee? However if a guy is too suave, thinks he is a player and gives me the feeling he is putting a notch on the bedpost just b/c I accepted coffee, ugh! I also wouldn't say yes if I felt intimidated by him. I have a guy friend who has a tendency to back girls into a corner. He doesn't realize how big he is and when he romantically puts his hands on either side of a girl, it's really just making her feel she can't escape. If the guy was insisting on knowing too much info or had to pick me up though, I'd run.
But even if a guy was not my normal type, 30 minutes of my life for a cup of coffee could decide to change my type. I'd go even if he was shorter than me, had a zit, or too athletic. I don't care anyway about cars or jobs--though I do care about ambition and desire to move up in the job market.
Like you said, it's a public place and as long as you meet there, the worst that can happen is a free cup of coffee.

Hon, I'm sure that SOME nice girl out there would love to have coffee with you!
But if a guy asks a girl out for coffee and she's just not interested in him, she'll say No. "Having coffee", to a female, is a prelude to an actual date.

Well, sometimes if a girl knows she would never be interested in a romantic relationship with a guy, she will say no because she doesn't want to give him any false hope and have him hounding her and calling for another coffee date or something more.

Could it be your approach or your attitude? Once when I was with a friend a guy basically just sat down with us uninvited because he thought we needed the company. Personally, if I don't like a guy's eyes, I would politely turn him down. Eye color doesn't matter, but what I see in them does.

advantageous... going out for espresso would be a shorter dedication of time which might become reliable if the guy replaced into uninteresting. If it is going properly over espresso, you could constantly enlarge the date to lunch/dinner.

Probably nothing too extreme.
He can't be obese, chubby is okay and he basically has to have teeth.
I'd love it if a guy asked me to coffee, dates are too cliche for me.

Are you an awkward guy? If a woman feels like it is going to be like pulling teeth to talk to someone, then they are not going to expose themselves to just that situation!
