No, that's too long to sleep. He either needs to stay awake once he's home, do some things around the house, then go to bed in time to get his 8 hours, or else go to bed right away after getting home and get his 8 hours.
My ex used to split his sleep time and never really accomplish anything during the day. I don't recommend that.

When I worked from 8 pm to 8 am, I would get up just in time to go back to work. When you sleep days, the quality of your sleep is not good. I could sleep for 6 hours at night and feel more rested than I did when I would sleep for 8 or even 10 hours during the day. What made it more difficult was that every 4 weeks the hours would switch and I worked from 8 am to 8 pm. Working nights and sleeping days is very hard on some people. I think that I would have had an easier time if the hours had been consistent.

Night shift is hard to get used to. I always had to sleep a full 8 hours but my aunt slept in cycles of four 2 hour sessions. He should be adjusted in about 6 months to a year.

I always slept like that when I worked that shift. But usually when I got used to it I slept less and less.
