-20 +30 -40 +50 = $20

OK - you have two issues running here which is why you are getting conflicting answers.

If your question is "HOW much money did he make", then the answer is $20.

However, you asked how much money does he have left? Well, unfortunately, that depends upon what he started with.

If he started with $20 (to buy the horse to begin with), then after he sells it for $30, he must come up with another $10 somewhere to buy it back again for $40. Then, if he sells it again for $50, well then he actually has $50 in his hand after the sale: $20 he started with, $10 more he had to borrow to make the second buy, and the $20 he made for the two sales.

So I do not think $10 is right. I also do not think $20 is right, since, that is what he made from the sales, not how much he has left. After the second sale, he technically has $50.

Not sure I helped - but hope you understand the issue.

If a man buys a horse for $20 and then sells it for $30.
That means he earns $30-$20 = $10

He then buys the same horse for $40 and then sells it for $50.
That means he earns $50-$20 = $10

How much money does he have left?
Total he earns is $10 + $10 = $20

If he buys the horse fo 20$ hes at 0$ then if he sells it for 30$ he got 30$ but if he buys it again for 40$ hes go -10$ then if hes sells it for 50$ hes got 40$ because of the -10$.
I think.
hope it helps.
