I am a grad student, and spend anywhere between 6 to 10 hours a day sitting on my tukus. I have a very flexible lower back, so I typically sit on my bed to study, with my legs stretched out, so that my hamstrings don't get tight. I slouch casually, but try to straighten myself up every fifteen minutes, and I take walking breaks every hour. I rarely sit in chairs. This seems to have prevented back pain so far, but is there a better way to sit for reading and/or typing? Thanks:)

Best way to sit in a chair is with both feet on the ground. If one crosses their legs it can irritate the nerves around the leg and pubic area.

I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.
