My opinion of it is that there doesn't seem to be a meaning to life. So..the purpose of life, given this view, is to live as happily as you can, and hopefully be a nice person and make other people happy too. However, belief in a meaning to life is somewhat necessary so that one can justify living and not committing suicide with something other than the fact that suicide is painful.

I don't think there is an answer to this question,
It will be different for everyone , and will depend on personal motivations.
Maybe it has no meaning , but we seek a meaning to give our life direction.

There are many aspects to this answer.
Most importantly, we all want to be happy and enjoy life, and don't want suffering. Now, unavoidably, any action has a result. One that is either desirable, undesirable, or of no concern.
Therefore, to me, the meaning possible to us in this life is the process of learning which actions make us happy and doing them. These actions start with the basic, like getting a good job, say, and culminate in higher levels of that which is good, or desirable, where the results are much better and effect many more than ourselves.
These last may be termed moral virtues, and their result is eventually all that we desire most.
Regards,
John
P.S. There are many peices of background logic which make up this statement. Please inquire if you would like to know more. :)

Dictionary.com defines life as:
1. the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to environment through changes originating internally.
2. the sum of the distinguishing phenomena of organisms, esp. metabolism, growth, reproduction, and adaptation to environment.
3. the animate existence or period of animate existence of an individual: to risk one's life; a short life and a merry one.
4. a corresponding state, existence, or principle of existence conceived of as belonging to the soul: eternal life.
5. the general or universal condition of human existence: Too bad, but life is like that.
etc.etc.etc.....
But it all seems pretty relative, don't you think?
The is no right answer to this, it's arguably the oldest question . You could say that this question, this conscious realization that there something bigger than you or I and our immediate surroundings is the gap between human beings and all other living things.

The "Meaning of Life" all depends on whose eyes you are looking through, as you can see with the trouble in the world today.
For me though, it means "From the time we come into being, to exist in harmony with nature, doing our best until we ceased to exist!

I think the only thing that can have meaning is the meaning you give to it....
As you can see by all these responses, everyone has their own meaning of life (more or less)....
So, to decide what it means for you, is to understand it, accept it, and enjoy it - because it is what works for you.

There is no one single "meaning of life". Life means different things to different people.
For me, the meaning of life is serving God!
