If they are young enough to put toys in their mouths, buy books, board games or art crafts.
If they are over 5 and know better than to put things in their mouths and wash their hands frequently- you should be fine buying them from whatever.

Yes, I'd give toys that were made in China as a Christmas gift. I know that not all of the recalls were over the lead paint scare and I believe that no matter how many safeguards you have in place, you always run the risk of having a defective product.
From foods, to toys, to cars, the possibility of having some kind of recall exists. Rather than worry about the chance that something could go wrong, I'd pick up a toy that was made in China if I knew it would bring happiness to the person receiving it.

There haven't been any reports of kids getting actually sick from the lead-tainted toys. (From the Aqua Dots. . . that's a different story.) Yes, lead paint is dangerous, but unless I was buying for a baby who puts everything in his or her mouth, I'd buy them gifts made in China. And not EVERYTHING is tainted (though there is certainly the possibility that whatever you buy might be recalled).
There's probably been lead in some of our products for a while. It sucks, but our plates are probably made in China, as are so many other things around the house. Until a specific item is recalled, I would still buy it.

With the lead they are putting in the toys from China...I say only buy toys made in the USA. Maybe Taiwan but definitely not China. I wouldn't give my dog a toy from there.

Whatever you do look at every single label so you can be sure that it is not made in china...so many kids are getting sick from lead poisoning, you need to be very very careful when picking out toys and gifts.

there is amazingly little around the board that isn't made in China in spite of if it would not state it on the tags. They did away with "Made in China" on products years in the past while they stumbled on that persons have been became off to the product if it became there. living house made presents would be your maximum suitable decision yet how many little ones are into those?

How old is your nephew. You can give him hot wheels cars they never been recalled or anything. My boys play with just cars and I got them hot wheels cars. I had checked the websites lately to see if there were anymore recalls.

If you are worried, why not try to make you own unique toys?
Try the local markets? Ask family and friends for ideas?
