Put me down for "not so different from the current situation in the long run".

ITLR (in the long run), the Brits and us are great friends, none better (well, maybe the Aussies!). ITLR, we jump to defend each other from threats -- WWI, WWII, etc. -- and our borders are pretty much open to Canadians and British.

Slavery may have been abolished a few years earlier or later. Economic development in the 'colonies' might have been a bit slower. The US might actually be a bit smaller and Mexico a bit bigger. But,

Economic and geopolitical forces have a way of developing things in a particular way regardless of national borders.

What are you asking? Do you mean what would the world be like if the American colonies had never rebelled against British rule? Or do you mean what would it be like if the Americans had fought their revolution without issuing a document that set forth the philosophy behind their rebellion?
