hard braking under heavy loaded conditions or heavy use in traffic or down hill worn shoes or pads it could be any number of things my advise is to take it to a repair shop and have all your brakes and componets checked it could be a caliper sticking causing the pads to stay in contact with the rotors if one side is thinner than the other the caliper is stickin if all parts are good its hard braking conditions with the tenp changes this time of the year if the rotors are extremly hot they will smoke and you can actually feel the heat just by putting your hand down by the wheels rainy weather will make your brakes steam up if your brakes are hot try to avoid puddles of water it will warp the hell out of your rotors then you will have to either replace them or have them turned to get them true again
