I couldn't even sleep last night, it hurt so bad! But I really hate taking meds, so is there any type of home remedy or something?

Drinking teas with honey helps, honey is a natural antibacterial. Also good to put on cuts and burns. But you need to boost your immune system to heal your throat, not just make it feel less sore. Try taking liquid echinichea and liquid astragalus and vitamin C, also a good multi vitamin and whole food supplement couldn't hurt. Don't take the echinichea longer then you are sick though. Its is best to take in short periods of a week or two and then stop. I have been doing this and haven't taken meds in 9 years. Also, look up what a neti pot is online to clear your sinuses so that no bacterial infections can happen there.

If it's just a scratchy sore throat, gargle for a few minutes with warm salt water, maybe as much as a teaspoon per glass.

If your glands are swollen try drinking about 1/8 cup of vinegar; wine or cider variety. Just pretend it's a shot of liquor.

Honey lemon tea is also a winner to soothe a sore throat, but it doesn't really cure it.

I know of a few things that might help:

!.) The easiest and most effective: Peppermint candies... like starlight mints, dinner mints, or York Peppermint Patties. Just let them melt in your mouth, but beware on not to eating too many, as peppermint is a natural laxitive.

2.) Like #1, pour two tablespoons sugar, one tablespoon honey, a teaspoon of maple syrup (or other thick syrup of your choice), and a capful or two of peppermint extract (depending on how sore your throat is) into a saucepan, heat over medium temp. until it is somewhat gooey. Scoop it up, and allow to cool on the spoon, and eat it like a lollipop. It serves the same purpose as the mints, however, it'll coat your throat quite nicely, and the effect lasts longer than a plain mint. But this one is a little more potent on the laxitive properties, due to the high sugar content.

3.) Warm lemonade with honey. I don't know why it works, but it does. Has no side effects, other than squeaky teeth from the lemonade. Doesn't last very long, but it does help.

4.) Gargle with hot salt-water, and then drink a glassful of icewater. The hot water relaxes the throat, and the salt kills any infection in there. The cold ice water then soothes the throat from the stinging.

5.) Fill a sink full of hot water, and again, put a few drops of peppermint extract into the water. Stick a large towel over your head, and have it cover the sink too. Inhale the vapors with your mouth. This is more effective if your sore throat is irritated by coughing, as opposed to swallowing.

Depends on how long you've had a sore throat and if you have white spots on the back of your throat. If you have a sore throat for more than 5 days and there are white spots on the back of your throat, then you may have toncillitis and definitely need antibiotics. There is no home remedies for that. However, if its your first day with a sore throat and it's just a bright pink... then what has helped me many of times is to drink nice steaming cup of tea (not lemon tea... lemon is citrus and it can agitate your throat more because of the citric acid) with honey...not sugar. The honey coats your throat and helps you swallow a bit better. Hope this helps. If your sore throat prolongs for 5 days...then you must see a doctor.

Gardle with warm salt water right before going to sleep. Have NOTHING to drink or eat after you gargle and try to get the solution as far back into the throat as possible. Use lots of salt.

Gargle with salt water, take honey and lemon, also a tea made with slippery elm is very soothing.

Many grocery and health food stores carry a brand of tea called traditional medicinals who make a product called throat coat tea with slippery elm as the main ingredient.

Hope you feel better.

Salt water gargle as others have recommended. Also try tea with honey. You can probably find some organic throat soothing drops out there too.

This is my worst enemy. Try to gargle using Listerine very often. That's the closest thing to not using meds that I'm aware of. But once you start having an odd feeling in your throat, try doing atleast something to get it away or you're gonna get worse.

I've personally used Apple Cider Vinegar. It has antibiotic properties that kill off bacteria. Just mix equal amounts of water and the vinegar,...gargle at least 3 or more times a day. For the pain, I use Tylenol. It's always worked for me.
