Presumably they paid MLB some chunk of money to call themselves that. It doesn't actually matter on the field - individual players can (and do) sign deals with the maker of their choice, and are not required to use any particular manufacturer.

they were lucky enough to get a contract for gloves with MLB

They obviously wanted it more than rawlings even though most players use rawlings gloves.
