Someone told me that they were 99.9% sure time travel will never exist. That means there is a 1 in 1000 chance lol, i doubt theres that much chance.

If we're going to play with words, it doesn't mean that the chance is 1/1000- because this person said "99.9% SURE time travel will never exist." This means that 999/1000ths of them are positive this is impossible, while the 1/1000th of them says it MIGHT be possible.

"Everything that can be invented has been invented"
Charles H. Duell, 1899

So much has been invented since 1899! Saything otherwise would just be plain ignorant! While I'm not saying time travel will happen, it should be open for possibilities. What if the human race had given up in 1899? Think of all the things we would have missed out on. Even if we're not sure it's going to happen, we have to have the mindset that it will. We need to push ourselves forward, always! Leave it open for possibility, and never say never.

Well, scientists already know HOW it's done...what needs to be in place before it can happen.

The development of putting the system in place seems impossible...but who knows what may be possible a coupla hundred years from now?

In my lifetime (I'm 67), people said it was impossible to escape earths atmosphere because the technology and speed necessary was beyond our reach. They also said that we'd never be able to go to the moon. Sending satellites into space, through the solar system towards the galaxies or sending robotic machines to Mars were strictly in the science fiction books.

Who knows for sure. I'd love to be around for it if they ever figure it out. Wouldn't that be exciting?

There is always some chance of impossible things happening, and saying 99% or 99.9% is just a way of indicating so improbable as to be close to impossible.

It's just a turn of phrase, not a scientific declaration they've proven. Don't take people so literally. Most people don't know whether they're coming or going. This guy was just expressing this uneducated conclusion based on things he's heard, movies he's seen, and his own wishful fantasies.
