I live in central Virginia, and the air quality here is pretty good most of the time. I have COPD, and sometimes changes in the weather affect that, but air QUALITY isn't the problem.
I've lived in California, and I know what you mean about the air quality. When we'd go on vacation and return, we could see the brown haze from a hundred miles away.

There is so much traffic through the week here that when there is a weather related inversion, it gets bad and we are warned to stay indoors . This only happens a few times a year though. I have noticed since the old cars are being taken off the roads, the air quality seems to be improving and some places have bi-laws that prohibit cars from idling longer than three minutes. I have also noticed that since we had our first frost, I am not suffering from allergies anymore either.

The air quality here in Western Washington is wonderful. It's the water that doesn't taste as good as it did 10 years ago. I have to filter my drinking water. It seems to have a lot of yucky minerals in it.
I was born in Calif. and worked in downtown Los Angeles before anything was done about the smog. My face used to sting and turn red in the office buildings. The windows were open and all the bad air came in. It is a lot better now but it is still not perfect.

It's been good till late evening, lots of train and truck smoke along with fire places I had to come in from out side. I have copd and it don't take much to move me inside.I hope they can clean up the air for the next generation. We sure made a mess of it in the last 50 years.

I used to live in a steelworks town, and the air made me really ill. I would wake up in the night choking and retching and all the back of my throat would be burning. It was the gases from the steelworks. I had asthma and it really made it bad. We moved away six years ago. We now live in a place that is up in the hills, with lots of farms around. Cleaner and much better air. I no longer wake up in the night like I did back home. MInd you, the 'country smells' can get to you a bit !!!!! But back home I got so depressed about it and it made me real scared, and I only wanted to get away.
How are things in Calif now?

i live out in the country-the air smells fresh, with a bit of woodsmoke from the woodstoves in my 'neighborhood'...including my own woodstove! to me, it's better than potpourri...like the song says, thank God i'm a country boy!
