Actually, when you say "Patriotism", I think of all the fireworks displays, 4th of July celebrations, all the times I've sung the national anthem before a sporting event... all the things that make me truly proud to be an American (war is definitely NOT one of the things that makes me proud of this country). I think of the fact that this is a country that outsiders risk death to become a part of. Patriotism is about being proud of how far we've come, and where we're going. I hope that helps. We aren't all a bunch of violent bullies.. those are called Republicans.

That's wrong. People may say that because the media (all over the world) focuses on war in their stories. However, I think many Americans see stopping global warming as patriotic, and conserving fuel as patriotic too. Two common examples.

There is some truth to what you say. But it applies equally to most countries.
Like most people Americans equate patriotism to defending their values and their country. but we do have feelings of home and hearth and value the beauty and majesty of our large and diverse landscape.
Just out of curiosity, what do you think of when you hear the word patriotism.

I will never be patriotic about the war even if someone paid me to be. I say patriotism is being loyal to your country. And even though you may not want to fight, if it was for a good cause, you would.

When I read your question, I automatically thought of the forefathers, like Washington and Nathan Hale, Paul Revere, wearing those silly hats and getting ready to battle the Redcoats.

The song that expresses my feelings for my country is is America the Beautiful, which asks for God's help to mend her flaws and names her beauties as fields and glories of nature.
