In the culture where I am from, we are secular and have contrasting tastes and styles - but we all share the same set of morals i.e. we all share the same idea as to what is right and wrong. But in Western culture you have different and completely contrasting morals - i.e. if a liberal believes something is correct, the conservative screams that he/she is wrong & vice versa.

For example, a guy said he is going to the bar a\with two women - the answerers responded t him saying he has to behave respectfully and not try to have sex with them. But when I asked a question saying it is wrong for a man to pick up women from the bar & have sex with them, then the answerers flamed me for being a religious bigot & many said I am jealous of the two women and that I wished I were in their place.

Why is it like that? Whom should I believe is correct here? Whom should I listen to? Why people have completely contrasting morals on what is right and what is wrong?

Because we know whats right but we also know what we want, the two aren't always the same. the answerer said to be respectful and not try to have sex, there's nothing wrong if the women want to have sex with him. you say it's wrong just in principle, they say it's wrong if he tries to hard, against there will. If it's consensual then every things cool. i could say the same thing again but that would be a wast of time. there probably jealous of him and took out their angst on you.

First of all, it's a fallacy that your culture all share the same set of morals. That's been proven over and over. While as a culture, you believe you all share the same morals, individuals do not. Even groups do not.

Who to believe? You use your brain and decide which you would believe follows your dictates.

For your example, the majority of men going into a bar with women aren't expecting to have sex with any pickup. Most are going to have social interaction and meet someone. Sometimes just to have a beer and not be alone while doing so. If he gets lucky, it's not for me to judge as it's a decision between two adults.

You are generalizing Americans based on your experience with Yahoo Answers & that is wrong. In real life the conservatives people keep their morals to themselves or merely preach them as opinions - on Yahoo Answers though, the format of it and the ambiguity plus the cultural behavior of the conservatives allow them to force their morals onto people.

I know this because I was having a conversation yesterday with an old Christian man & he was actually very positive and open-minded and encouraged me to try one-night-stands and play safe and experiment with women - this is completely in contrast to the Christians and conservatives I have seen on Yahoo Answers.

I hope this helps you somewhat

Because people in the "West" have all different cultures. There isn't one single American or Western culture. People naturally are going to believe what they want and in America in particular there are enough outlets for people to find what they individually want and express their beliefs. Of course differing opinions lead to rude people like the ones on Yahoo Answers, but I personally would hate living in a place where everyone thought the exact same thing.

Morality has to have a moral foundation. Without a higher moral authority, we just equate our own happiness with morality. When we set our own standards, then we can justify almost any behavior. I've read that even criminals planning their next crime think themselves to be basically good (meaning moral).

Strong traditions and family ties in other countries tend to keep behavior under control but that will eventually fade also.

God is the only possible higher moral authority to Whom we have an obligation to obey.

The Golden Rule is the rule that we ought to use (not just should use) to determine our moral behavior. But the GR has no moral authority unless we believe that God is behind it.

We have people from many different cultures and creeds living in our country. Americans are allowed to believe or not believe in what they want. Its called freedom of choice. No one dictates to us what to think or say. Yes, we have laws and rules to follow, but we also have people that break and go against those laws and rules.

I think you will find that most people would not go to a bar with the intention of picking someone up to have sex with, but would not necessarily condemn someone that did, just probably think they were foolhardy with all the STD's, etc. that are out there.

As far as your question as to who you should listen to...you should listen to yourself. If you feel something is wrong or immoral, then you have a right to feel that way and to tell people you feel that way. That is known as freedom of speech and is a very important right in our constitution. I may not like what someone has to say, but I would defend his right to say it. That is why you got flamed, people have a right to tell you that they think you are wrong. Its too bad that they also had to show their ignorance and call you names, that certainly was uncalled for.

Every culture has contrasting morals. It is part of human nature. There is how we think we act, and how we really act and often those two don't exist in the same mind at the same time.

Walt Whitman, one in each and every of his super poems summed it up. "Do I contridict myself? I contridict myself - i'm super, I contain multitudes." He grew to become into speaking of usa herself. the U. S. is created from some very exciting communities. you start up with the iconoclasts who began all of it, people who have been very curious on the subject of the critiques of the inhabitants as persons. you notice, the U. S. isn't a united states of america, yet particularly a Republic, and we are taught from early life that Republoican Creed. that's, be a guy or woman, make your guy or woman judgements and in case you do no longer basically like the way thigns are stepping into one place, pass to a distinctive. The states have greater potential then the different entity, because of the fact the potential of selection is dispursed to the backside available grouping. we are inspired to make our very own judgements. upload to this a separation of Church and State, meaning that each and every single guy or woman has the splendid to choose their very own morality. this saves anybody because of the fact then no person guy or woman or team gets to %. the religion, people would nicely be Christian, Jewish, Islamic - Shinto, and that's good. it is to no longer critisize the different equipment, if it works, then stunning. that's the uncomplicated theory of being American - if it works, then that is sweet. Who do you need to hear to - as an American, i'd say - to your self and the individuals you appreciate. i'm sorry you have been flamed, you seem to have nicely even with the shown fact that out critiques and a good, reliable ethical midsection. I too, agree, people shouldn't %. people up in bars, you're able to have a dating with somebody till now you have intercourse with them. even with the undeniable fact that, i does certainly no longer tell somebody they could no longer - and neither would you - so i assume whomever flamed you basically has a accountable wide awake. Going to a bar with women is different from leaving a bar with women. In the first scenario you are dropping them off for others to have sex with, not for you to have sex with. So you're supposed to treat them nicely so that men who see you with them will think they are worthwhile to have sex with.
