i just brought my new appy home yesterday, and I am thinking of renaming him. his name is legacy, but it sounds to girly to me. i don't really have a picture of him on the computer yet, so here is the ad for him.

http://www.dreamhorse.com/show_horse.php?form_horse_id=1030299

he is one of the best horses i have ever been around (so far...), and he is a real gentleman. anyway, he is an arab/appy cross. i was thinking a Native American name mabye, but i can't pronounce some of them, and i want one that sounds pretty, but is unique.

so if you guys have any suggestions native american or not, lemme know. thanks!!

p.s. his real name is TAIRS BRIGHT LEGACY.

I like avalanche, because of the white (snow-like) slope on his back.

Since I think real names are kind of a touchy subject I think to many native folks when it comes to using their language, might I just suggest looking up words that mean 'horse', perhaps there is one that would sound nice.

T.B or "boyfriend"

my favorite horse I owned was, Miss Quixote Lot
Fine horse. 1/4 horse> Dun with some serious tiger stripes.
I always talked to her and used her full name out of respect,
for her being so good at everything.
When I was just "horsing" around, I called her "girlfriend"

wow. he's beautiful. I think something like rusty or rudy would work well with his red color. also if you're irish, a name like Hogan, which means fire in gaelic would work. Russel means reddish or hed haired in french. McIntosh, because he's red and reminds me of apples. another type of apple that would be cool for a show name is Red Rome or Rome beauty. ooohh- here's a good one- Achak, an algonquin name meaning "spirit" or Akecheta, which is a sioux word for "fighter". or Huritt, which is an Algonquin name that means "handsome". another is Langundo, which means peaceful. another native american name is Lootah, which is a Sioux name for red. Takoda is a sioux name meaning "friend to everyone." sooo i think thats it.. good luck with your new appaloosa, and also finding a name that's perfect for him.

Very nice horse. Arab/Appaloosa crosses are also known as Araloosas.
I looked up your horse's pedigree at Appaloosa.com
He is by DHF TAIRS LEGACY (Arabian) and out of TRIBUNE'S FANCY (ApHC) * . Also in his pedigree is Aladdinn (AHR) and Very Bright (ApHC)
Since his name is registered, you can't officially change it, but you can call him anything you like at home.
How about Magic - as in Aladdinn's magic carpet?
