The Discobolus of Myron ("discus thrower") is a famous Roman marble copy of a lost Greek bronze original. It dates from between 460-450 BC. A nude discus thrower is depicted about to release his throw. The moment captured in the statue is an example of realistic depiction, rhythm, harmony and balance; and the sculptor Myron is thought to be the first sculptor to achieve these qualities in a depiction of the human form.It is 1.55 meters tall (6,1 ft) and is now in the collection of the National Museum of Rome. Many copies of this piece have been found, one of which is in the British Museum.
