Yes, and "santa claus"

It's Father Christmas & Football from now on.

Football, A ball moved around by the foot. Football. You don't play it with just a sock on do you? Cos if so, it could be called Socker.

hehe

Actually soccer is an English term! It was used in the fifties and sixties but was discarded in the seventies when the fledgling American league started.

You are right that we should say football...but actually...it is Association Football!

kicking a ball around has been the sport of every civilisation ever developed since before the Mayans even.
In America Football is Gridiron, Britain its Soccer, Australia has Aussie Rules, New Zealand has Rugby league. Each one of these countries defines football as the major code played there. So just because your football isn't the same code as our football does not give you the right to push your preference onto us. Besides, doesn't matter what you Pom's call it, you will still LOSE LOL.

They may well have invented football but it was a Scotsman who invented what turned it in to the beautiful game, passing. Therefore I hearby claim the right for Scotland to rename it officially Fitba.

I know that's what they call it over there but over here if you were to call soccer football people would think you were talking about real football. Most children, in the U.S. played kickball in elementary school but prefer American football as adults.
