Turkeys are like chickens, they're not very smart. Besides, most farmed turkeys were probably killed in the past two months and frozen.
Fresh turkeys come from hunters and they have a good life.Hunters won't kill the only Tom, they'd take a hen. They'd only kill a Tom if they had multiples. Turkeys are well kept, have food and nesting places.
Many ranchers don't even hunt turkeys anymore. They run to the butcher\grocer and leave the wild game alone.

I imagine your dog had no idea where he was going the first time he went to the vet.
I think it would be safe therefore to assume turkeys have no idea what is about to hit them until it is all over.
Unless they have been through it all before and are on their second time round.

lol- My dog loves to go to the vet.
But I don't trust those turkeys one bit!
