Absolutely yes, you can live comfortably on 60-70 thousand a year.

I am down to working 32 hours a week and make 63 a year, and life is good!!!! I live in a nice but not extravegant house in north county, about a ten minute drive from the beach in a safe neighborhood, drive a recent model car, eat out often, take nice vacations and give money to church and charities. I also do a lot of volunteer work.

Nuthin' special about me; if that's a good sounding life to you then it's possible.

For living areas, I like coastal north county as the beaches are pretty, the neighborhoods mostly safe, all the amenities you could want and a little bit away from the hassle of the area closer to downtown. I take the Coaster train or carpool when I have to go downtown. There are many good places in the San Diego area where you can afford to live on the outlined salary. Check out La Mesa in east county (make sure you have air conditioning for hot summers), coastal towns of Encinitas and Carlsbad (you won't be able to afford right on the beach but can easily afford a couple of miles from the beach). All have village cores that are pleasant and "local" feeling, safe communities, nice neighbors, and not too too far out of the central core of San Diego. Where you'd end up could be dependent on where you are working too. The three communities I've listed are all affordable for your price range.

I moved here from the midwest 2 years ago. The only things that are more expensive, are taxes, housing, and eating out. Once you get by these, you will be living a similar life as you are now. 60-70 will be enough.

If you want to make sure you enjoy yourself here, take this advice. Move within ten miles of the beach, and stay between downtown and Carlsbad. Any further north, south, or east and you run a chance of being disappointed.

Are you going to purchase.Home prices are dropping a little now, but are still very high if you do not have anything saved up. 2 bedroom Condos can be purchased in beach communities for as little as 275K.

If you would like me to set a search of properties up for you, just reply with what you would like in a home, and what you think you can afford.

If you are a younger person (below 25) then most people I know, including myself, started out in an apartment in Pacific Beach. It's beautiful, fun, centrally located, and has lots of cool stuff to do.
If you are a little more mellow and not into the beach party scene then I would suggest anywhere west of Interstate 5. In the San Diego city limits most places are safe except City Heights and Barrio Logan.
San Diego has someplace for everyone. It's a diversified city. You'll get here and find your perfect little area. Good luck.

I live in La Mesa. It's about 8 miles outside of SD. I love it! Very mellow. La Jolla & Del Mar are nice but very expesive. El Cajon is nice and has a country feel to it. Santee is similar to El Cajon, both are about 10 to 12 miles outside of SD.

Good Luck! You'll love the weather! Not too hot and never too muggy.

well.. to live in a big house in California with that budget it is unlikely but you can live in a OK house in Escondido (45 min. away from the beach) for $400,000. You can also get a condo for $200,000 like 10 min. away from the beach. i would suggest to get a Realtor. Houses have gone way down but in 2 years I don't know how that will be.
